Vote16 Illinois began in Fall 2016 as an effort by Chicago high school students to create legislative change and increase student involvement in local politics. The students envisioned a future where all young people in Illinois would have the tools to take a stand and fight for their beliefs. After its inception, Vote16 Illinois began to grow and now boasts a membership that is currently over 100 members strong – all high school students from CPS and neighboring districts. Some of these students would later join committees to further their involvement in the movement. Students in the Political Outreach Committee contact local representatives, form Vote16 Illinois’ political messaging strategy, and secure official statements of support from legislators. Students in the Field Organizing Committee connect with community organizations, organize canvasses and phone banks, and maintain a newsletter. Lastly, students in the Social Media and Communications Committee maintain our online presence, create graphics, and expand our reach across the state. Dedicated members of Vote16 Illinois work everyday to drive the movement to fulfill the vision of the founding members.
